KITTERY, Maine Town Council Vice Chair Kenneth Lemont submitted a letter of resignation Tuesday, one day after Charles Denault Jr. s resignation from the council was approved.
Citing health-related reasons, Lemont’s departure comes after his reelection in November 2020 for a third three-year term. The Town Council will meet in a special session Wednesday at 6 p.m. to vote on whether to accept Lemont s resignation.
Reached Tuesday evening, Lemont, who didn t specify his health issue, said his resignation doesn’t preclude him from running again in the future. “My anticipation and hope is that I will feel better and work through this.”
KITTERY, Maine Charles Denault Jr. s resignation as a town councilor became official Monday night, though the reasons behind his departure have not been made clear.
It is clear, however, that allegations Denault has made and actions he has taken were not supported by the Town Council, which approved his resignation in a unanimous vote with Town Council Chair Jeffrey Thomson denouncing Denault s statements.
Denault wrote that in his political platform, he strived to serve the entirety of Kittery by attempting to ensure transparency, fiscal responsibility and a productive work force. When presented with information raising concerns about these issues, he wrote, “I aggressively followed up in concert with what I believed (to be) my sworn duty to all of Kittery s citizenry.”
