South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court, Abbey Road, Barrow A MAN has admitted that he breached a restraining order after the woman he was banned from contacting approached him in the street. A court heard that Daniel Nigel Miller was prohibited from having any contact with Jenna Dougan, only for her to start talking to him when she saw the defendant out in public. Miller, 33, was previously jailed and handed the order after he slapped Miss Dougan. South Cumbria Magistrates Court Miller breached the order when he talked to the woman for around 25 minutes in Barrow on June 11 last year. Prosecutor Rachel Dixon said: The police have seen the defendant walking from Ainslie Street on to Abbey Road with a friend and a female identified as Jenna Dougan.
1/1 A WOMAN found in possession of cannabis has received a conditional discharge after magistrates accepted it was for medical use. Carley White, 37, was found with the class B drug in her car, a court heard. Officers then found a small box containing amphetamine when they searched her home the next day. The court heard White had been using the cannabis to self-medicate for two medical conditions and was now being prescribed the drug for medicinal purposes legally. White, of Middleton Avenue in Barrow, admitted two charges of possessing class B drugs when she appeared before South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court. Prosecutor Rachel Dixon told the court White was found with the drugs on August 16 and 17 last year.

Hannah Woodend was ordered to pay a sizeable fine and banned from the road when she was convicted of another drug driving offence. The 20-year-old admitted that she drove her BMW on the A590 near Arrad Foot with a THC, a breakdown product of cannabis, in her system. South Cumbria Magistrates Court heard that Woodend had 3.9 micrograms of the substance in a litre of blood - over the legal threshold of 2ug - following tests by police.
A prolific thief who tried to force his way into a town centre bar has been sentenced. Marc Woods landed himself in court after he attempted a late night raid on a Barrow bar – only to be foiled by the locked door. The 43-year-old admitted that he attempted to carry out a burglary at Arribar when he appeared before South Cumbria Magistrates Court. The court heard the incident happened just after 2am on July 4 at the Mexican bar in Cavendish Street. Prosecutor George Shelley said: At time of the offence the door was locked. The defendant approached the door and tried to open it. He caused the hinges to bend.
A RACIST incident at a Barrow hotel should not give people the wrong impression of the town, company bosses have said. Holiday Inn chiefs spoke out after a man who filmed himself racially abusing two doctors outside the Market Street hotel was handed a suspended prison sentence. Bernard Devlin, 67, admitted two charges of racially-aggravated harassment when he appeared before South Cumbria Magistrates Court this week. Devlin provoked uproar in Barrow after he shared a video of himself approaching a group of hotel guests saying: We don t want you in our town. This is a hotel for migrants. I m going to get the lot of you out of this town.
