In a statement on its Facebook page, the Arlington Police Department (APD) said officers responded to a report of gunshots in the 700 block of Washington Drive at an apartment complex at 12:36 a.m.

A short time later, police were notified by officers in Grand Prairie that a 4-year-old boy had been taken to a hospital there and that the child died of an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Police confirmed to NBC 5 Friday afternoon that they interviewed four adults, two who were at the hospital and two who returned to the apartment after leaving the hospital, who told police they were in the apartment at the time of the shooting. Lt. Christopher Cook with the Arlington Police Department said Friday afternoon one of the adults told police initially that the bullet was a stray that had entered the apartment from the outside through the sliding glass door.
