A former maths teacher who was set to stand trial for having sex with a 16-year-old student has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The attorney s office has now dropped the charges.

In favor of giving the development regulations committee 60 more days to work on rules for commercial solar panel farms and solar plants were the following council members: Buddy Ridgel, District 5; Joey Mayeaux, District 6; Lionell Wells, District 7; Brigette Hyde, District 9; Kim Coates, District 10; and Trent Forrest, District 1.
Voting against the extension were Councilman David Vial, of District 8; John Ingraffia, of District 2; Louis Joseph, of District 3; and Carlo Bruno, of District 4.
Councilwoman Kim Coates said the development regulations committee is moving in the right direction and they need more time because this topic is new to them.
