about you were telling me during the commercial break you ve run nine marathons but you ve run other marathons in other parts of the country, but boston is special, and it s special for a reason, isn t it? it s the marathon every runner wants to run. if you re an elite athlete you re drawn here. if you run other marathons you always want to run boston. i m a charity runner. bill: which means you raise money for charities and that s why you re out here. exactly. most of the people that were finishing at that time were charity runners, raising money for great organizations, and i can only assume that a lot of the spectators were their friend and family, so i think that s what makes a marathon special is a combination of it s an elite sporting event and a lot of charity. bill: chris my best to you and the people in boston. chris cassidy a report and runner, thanks again. our chief intelligence correspondent catherine herridge has been on the story from the
2:50 yesterday afternoon thereabouts. what are you doing? where are you? what evolved? aisle dead center at that point sitting right on the finish line. out there for about five hours shooting finish line scenes. at this point four hours into the race, mostly the charity runners and the people that didn t qualify coming across. i m trying to capture scenes. somebody does a cartwheel coming across the line or push-ups, that sort of thing, very light coverage, 2:50 p.m. out of the right side just there it went, the explosion just smoke shot up, you heard the loud thud sound and just kind of went over. got closer for a split second, thought is it some kind of muss kel fire celebrating these people coming across. as you got closer, only 12 seconds on the approach we heard the second explosion up by fairfield street. a, what goes through your mind, then your mind s eye as
bill: in boston we have fox news correspondent molly line joining us live now. she has been watching the story from the very beginning. you re the boston correspondent. and you know the town pretty well. this tell the folks this boylston street is one of the three hubs in back bay. commonwealth avenue. you ve got boylston street and beacon street and they are all parallel. this is a tourist destination. people are walking in on marathon day. s is a separate tore celebrity tore place, the race ends there go ahead. what you are talking about is the timing of this. the race kicked off in the morning. the elite inracers had finished their run. they had stopped running two hours before. this the people crossing the lines at this point a little before 3:00. a lot of them were charity
people williams in our washington bureau with the latest that s known about this investigation. thanks. during our live coverage during the afternoon today we heard from a lot of eyewitnesss including two journalists with the boston globe. steve silva and david able. they both walked us through what they saw. at the finish line getting the late runners. most of those were charity runners. things just going along swimmingly and then boom and smoke just billowed straight up into the air and me and the other photographers immediately ran over there and 20 seconds after that a second explosion
foreigners or from here in the united states. whether they are members of the terrorist organization or lone wolves. they frankly at this moment do not know with any certainty. molly line, our new england based, boston based correspondent at the scene of the crime now. molly, what are you seeing there? shep, we re in columbus avenue. this is a major thorough fare here in boston here in the city. you can see ambulances line up all the way down this street. we are really just around the corner from where these explosions occurred on boylston street that what should have been a joyful end. the elite runners had finished with their run and these were really the charity runners, the family members, still tremendous amount of runners had yet to cross the finish line when these explosions occurred some 5,000 beam yet to finish the race. the finish line was really packed with family members, kids, people waiting for their loved ones to cross the finish line. over 100 people injured at least
