Cairo: Kuwait on Tuesday summoned the Lebanese embassy’s charge d’affaires to hand him an official protest note condemning Lebanon’s foreign minister’s “insults”, Kuwait’s foreign ministry said in a statement.
The foreign ministry added that the “severe insults” made by caretaker Lebanese foreign minister, Charbel Wehbe, in a TV interview towards the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council “are contrary to the historical brotherly relations that ties GCC states with Lebanon.”

BEIRUT, May 18 (Reuters) - Lebanon s caretaker foreign minister, Charbel Wehbe, made scathing remarks about Gulf countries in an interview late on Monday, blaming them for the spread of Islamic State, comments that could add strain to an already tense relationship. Those countries of love, friendship and fraternity, they got us Islamic State and planted it in the plains of Nineveh and Anbar and Palmyra, Wehbe said in an interview with regional network Al Hurra, referring to parts of neighboring Syria and Iraq that Islamic State seized in 2014.
When asked if by those countries he meant Gulf states, Wehbe said he did not want to name names. But on a question about whether Gulf states had funded the Islamist movement he said: who funded them then, was it me?

MANAMA Bahrain and Kuwait have strongly condemned the offensive statements made by the Lebanese foreign minister in the caretaker government, Charbel Wehbe, during a television interview against Saudi Arabia, its people, and the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Bahrain s foreign ministry in a statement on Tuesday stressed that these statements are inconsistent with basic diplomatic norms and contradict the fraternal relations that bind the people of the GCC states with the brotherly Lebanese people.

In a statement carried out by Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the Foreign Ministry said that Kuwait s Deputy Foreign Minister Majdi Al Thufairi summoned today the charge d affairs of the Lebanese embassy in Kuwait Hadi Hashim and handed him an official protest note including Kuwait s condemnation and denunciation of the Lebanese minister offenses which contradict the sisterly relations between Lebanon and the GCC states.
