A boarding school in Ghana, Africa, is the setting for a retelling of the 2004 movie, “Mean Girls” and it’s the final weekend for this stage version that’s being performed by an all-Black cast from Spotlight Youth Theatre in Glendale.It’s called, “School Girls; or, The African Mean Girls Play,” written by Ghanaian-American playwight, writer and actor Jocelyn Bioh.

The Phoenix Theatre Company recently launched its new season in early September with a dynamic portrayal of singer Billie Holiday, titled, “Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill.”The production was written by playwright Lanie Robertson and is told through Holiday’s anecdotes as well as singing.
