India’s ambitious lunar mission Chandrayaan-3 is on track as spacecraft is now just three-day away from its final destination, the moon’s south pole. ISRO is bidding to make a successful soft landing on the moon, which will make India the 4th country in the world to achieve the feat.
On Friday, the space agency announced that the health of Chandrayaan-3's Lander Module is normal, and added that the module has successfully undergone a deboosting (slowing down) operation taking it closer to the Moon
On August 17, the Lander Module, comprising the Vikram lander and Pragyan rover, successfully separated from the Propulsion Module, marking a significant milestone in the mission.
Deboosting is the process of slowing down to position itself in an orbit where the orbit's closest point to the Moon (Perilune) is 30 km and the farthest point (the Apolune) is 100 km.
Former Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) Chairman K Sivan has expressed optimism about the soft landing of India's ambitious Chandrayaan-3 mission, on the Moon on August 23.
