In the course of her 9-to-5 life, Chandra Smith of Laurel is just like so many others around the DMV. But last month, she added another title to her résumé: Ms. Wheelchair Maryland.
Smith, a 35-year-old IT engineer working in intelligence for the federal government, won the competition from a field of three contestants. She will now advance to the Ms. Wheelchair America pageant in Grand Rapids, Michigan from Aug. 28 through Sept. 3. She will compete against about 35 contestants from other states.
