Tripura: 39th Edition of Agartala Book Fair to be Held from February 26
The Agartala Book Fair to commence from February 26. The theme for the 39th edition of Agartala Book Fair is Amader Tripura, Sresta Tripura.

Agartala: The 39th edition of Agartala book fair is all set to start from February 26. The theme for this year s book fair is - Amader Tripura, Sresta Tripura, which basically means that Our Tripura, Best Tripura.
The Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura, Jishnu Deb Barma announced that the book fair will be organised this time at the Hapania International Fair ground in Agartala. Last year, the Tripura Publishers Guild opposed and boycotted the government s decision to organise an event of joy and excitement for the book lovers. They boycotted the event as it was held at Hapania, which was outside the city of Agartala. The Tripura Publishers Guild have appealed the government to rethink their decision this time.
Pandemic-hit book publishers eye for openings
It was an intriguing discussion at a special session of the prestigious 33rd Guwahati Book Fair, where a number of book publishers, writers, journalists and conscious readers assembled to introspect over various challenges faced by the book (publication) industry during the Covid-19 pandemic inducing national lockdown in India and also to arouse new possibilities in the post-corona era.
The participants were unanimous that the pandemic had severely affected the publishing industry including the physical newspapers but at the same time, it helped to increase the number of committed
readers precisely among the new generation. They opined that the process of publishing and arketing Assamese books also reemerged with new approaches to the technology-driven profession for the

GUWAHATI: Writer, journalist and retired IAS officer Jyoti Prasad Saikia passed away at his Chandmari residence here at 7.55 this morning. He was 75.
In 1970, Late Saikia was the Agartala correspondent of the Times of India, and he did cover the Bangladesh Liberation War. Later, he was awarded by the Bangladesh government after attaining independence.
Late Saikia was a direct nominated IAS officer because of his excellent performance. He did hold the post of Director, Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Assam. He also held posts like Commissioner Secretary, Personnel and Home Secretary.
It was Jyoti Prasad Saikia who had coined the phrase Seven Sisters for the seven northeastern states in his work The Land of Seven Sisters . After his superannuation, he was the Editor of Dainik Asam for four years. He had command over three languages – English, Assamese and Bengali. He was the author of most of the slogans on the State government schemes.
