Chandigarh: Damanvir Singh Phillaur, son of Punjab’s former jail minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur, described the March 8 protest by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), led by party president Sukhbir Singh Badal across the state as “political drama.”
Addressing a press conference at Phillaur in Jalandhar district on Sunday, Damanvir said the Badals have no right to protest against issues faced by Punjab as they cropped up due to the actions of the Badal family. He accused the Badals of ‘looting’ Punjab during their 10-year tenure and creating the culture of monopoly in every business, including liquor, cable, transport and sand mining.

CHANDIGARH: A six-year-old girl was found murdered after a suspected sexual assault in the forest area behind the cremation ground in Hallomajra on Saturday morning, sparking protests from angry relatives and residents and leading the police to arrest a 12-year-old boy for the crime in the night.
At 7am, the body of the nursery class student was found in a semi-nude condition. Police suspect the girl was raped. Her medical examination report is awaited.
A cop said the accused had smashed her face with a stone to prevent her identification. Police have recovered the blood-stained stone.
Ram Pal Behniwal, 60, used a Maruti 800 engine for his 18ft long ‘jet
BATHINDA: The French-made Rafale might be flying high in the sky but a 60-year-old self-taught mechanic from Bathinda’s Rama Mandi has designed his very own ‘Punjab Rafale’ a jet-shaped vehicle that runs at 15kmph on roads.
This vehicle, which is 18 feet long, 10 feet wide and 8 feet high, can run up to 7 kilometres in a litre of petrol.
The vehicle cost Ram Pal Behniwal, a matriculate who took around 45 days to design it, about Rs 3 lakh. It weighs nearly 800kg, has the engine of Maruti 800 car and the steering system of a jeep.
Haryana health minister Anil Vij
CHANDIGARH: Haryana health minister Anil Vij, who launched the third phase of Covid-19 vaccination in the state on Monday, said he did not need the vaccine as his antibodies count was around 300 because of the shots taken during trials. Even chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar did not opt for the vaccination, saying, “My antibodies count is above 100. I have consulted the physician as well. She has not advised this as of now.”
Urging people to take the vaccine, Vij tweeted, “Today, corona vaccine is going to be launched for the general public. Everyone should take the Covid-19 vaccine without hesitation. I will not take it as after getting contracted with Covid my antibody is 300, which is very high. Perhaps it is the contribution of trial vaccine that I had taken. I do not need a vaccine yet.”
