hopes of cutting off most of the oil leaking from the oil floor. correspondent kris gutierrez is live in venice, louisiana, tonight. good evening, kris. reporter: hello, bret. yeah, oil has been spotted on the chandelier islands. not the thin oil sheen but the thicker rust-colored oil we ve seen on floating on the gulf of mexico for two weeks now. response team are working to protect the vast wellands pulling back oil away from the vegetation with skinners and containment booms. the area impacted so far is only accessible by boat but home to hundreds of nesting birds. earlier today, they found two dead sea birds off the coast. stopped short of saying oil killed the birds but they were covered in oil when the wildlife experts plucked them from the waters. meanwhile, short-term fix for the leaks is still a massive and concrete steal dome. the 140-ton structure is
