you might remember the case of the press baron conrad black, who at one point owned one of the great newspaper empires of the world. but then six years ago, he faced investigations into his handling of his company and was convicted in u.s. federal court on the lesser charges of obstruction of justice and fraud. some of the major charges against him were successfully overturned on appeal, but in the end black served more than three years in american prisons. black, an amateur historian with several important biographies under his belt already, has now written a book about the country that imprisoned him called flight of the eagle, the grand strategies that brought america from colonial dependence to world leadership. he cannot enter the united states currently so he has joined me from toronto to talk about his benign view of american grand strategy but his much less flattering opinion of our legal system. listen in. conrad black, that you for joining me. i m grateful for the
