Dec 11, Colombo: Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa Friday (Dec 11) instructed the members of the Election Commission to pay attention to holding of the Provincial Council Elections expeditiously and look into the necessary legal matters.
The Premier advised the Election commission to take mandatory steps to hold the Provincial Council Elections and consider the legal framework of the forthcoming elections whilst adhering to the COVID 19 guidelines.
The Prime Minister gave these instructions when he met with the members of the new Election Commission at his official residence in Wijerama this morning.
The Prime Minister also asked the members of the Election Commission to look into the possibility of holding elections under the old or new system.
