About 1,000 people are expected to get a COVID-19 vaccination by early next week at Franklin County s first and only mass vaccination center.
The new center at the former Burlington store at Chambersburg Mall, located off of Interstate 81 Exit 20, will be open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. This Thursday, April 22, is the first day.
People must have an appointment in order to be vaccinated. Walk-ins will receive assistance to schedule an appointment at a later time.
As it has with other counties in southcentral Pennsylvania, WellSpan Health worked with Franklin County government and the emergency services department to open the vaccination center.
Chambersburg Public Opinion
Like other schools around Pennsylvania and the nation, the end-of-year events students at Chambersburg Area Senior High School were looking forward to last year were largely destroyed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Class of 2020 got no prom and no opportunity to be the senior class at Color Day (although, there was a virtual event). They got to walk for graduation, but late in the summer and with less pomp and circumstance.
As the pandemic wore on, the Class of 2021 stood to lose more. In addition to missing out on the last months of their junior year, they ve spent their senior year tied down by COVID-19 restrictions. Chambersburg schools were fully remote for most of the year, until about a month ago. Homecoming was canceled in the fall. Athletics and other extracurricular activities were largely limited to participants and few others.
