Earlier this week Canfor announced it is resigning from the B.C. Lumber Trade Council following the ruling by the NAFTA Extraordinary Challenge Committee, Aug. 10. Canfor president and CEO Jim Shepherd said the organization has served its purpose and no longer represents the majority of B.C. lumber producers. “It was a vehicle to work through the American litigation process. We’ve come to a conclusion of this process,” Shepherd said. “From my perspective this is the end of the road. The question now becomes one of where the politicians take things.” The B.C. Lumber Trade Council, which only has six remaining members, has served its purpose, he added.
