Wembley Park and Covid heroes

Inspirational Riz and child exploitation

The recent complaint about the government report that says: race and racism have become less important factors in explaining social disparities in the UK, stands in stark contrast to Riz Ahmed who has managed to fulfil some of his aspirations despite the relative disadvantages of growing up in a deprived borough. I’m proud of Riz, and I hope that he’ll inspire other young people growing up in Wembley to believe in themselves and try to do the best they can for themselves despite the odds in society. Homeless in Brent, Covid and Ramadan support

Professor Kevin Fenton, London regional director, Public Health England, writes: This week we have had the chance to see family and friends again outdoors in a group of six, or two households. The careful lifting of these restrictions has been possible thanks to the efforts of all Londoners in sticking to the rules up to now, helping bring infection rates down across the capital. But although we have made significant progress, the pandemic is far from over and the situation remains delicate.      It, therefore, remains vital we do not get complacent and continue limiting transmission over the Easter holidays and beyond. That means sticking to the Rule of Six and avoiding the temptation to meet others in larger groups or indoor settings, as well as remembering the basics of Hands, Face, Space and Fresh Air.

Readers letters People walking past a homeless man - Credit: PA Helping the homeless Trevor Ellis, Chalkhill Road, Wembley, writes:  Call my view simplistic or unrealistic, but I can’t help believing that in the UK, where according to the Office for National Statistics the population in 2016 was 65.6 million, no one should be lonely. Likewise, in spite of the irresponsible mistreatment of the planet, it still produces tons of food to sustain our lives. Yet, many people are increasingly saying that they are hungry and recent news about one such person who was sent a meagre amount of food that was expected to sustain her child for seven days resulted in justified complaints on social media.

The Queen promised us that better days would surely return, so we all did our bit: stayed at home to help out. But Cummings drove miles to Barnard Castle to check out his eyesight, then thousands flocked to the beach to check out the sunlight.  While Black Lives Matter gained momentum and made headlines; and the Premier League football returned to empty stadiums. Dishy Rishi told us: Eat Out to Help Out, students took to the streets over exams fiasco to shout out. Schools eventually reopened as an absolute priority, as safe; but the world-beater test-and-trace failed to keep pace.
