The telecom regulator has urged Total Access Communication (DTAC) to give proper compensation to subscribers who lost the chance to sign up for the government’s 50-50 co-payment scheme due to technical glitches in the mobile operator’s one-time password (OTP) system Wednesday morning.
The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) summoned DTAC to explain the problem Wednesday afternoon.
Speaking after the meeting, Trairat Viriyasirikul, acting secretary-general of the NBTC, said the regulator acknowledged DTAC’s commitment to offering proper compensation to affected customers.

The unusual redemption rate for the tourism stimulus campaign has alarmed the government, leading to inspections of ongoing transactions, while another 1 million room nights planned for this scheme has been postponed from Dec 16.
Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, the Tourism and Sports Minister, said the ministry received a number of complaints about fraud in the We Travel Together scheme that started on July 18 and offered 5 million hotel room nights.
On Dec 9, the real-time tracking system on the website showed 225,922 room nights were left, with 1.68 million air tickets available. On Dec 11, the air tickets remained unchanged, but the available rooms were listed as zero.

Tourism in the high season has been affected by fraud detected in the stimulus scheme, as most hotels saw guests abruptly pause bookings to wait for the government subsidy.
Irregularities in the recent transactions of 514 hotels and stores participating in the We Travel Together campaign made the government postpone the addition of 1 million room nights to the scheme, scheduled for today, for at least one month.
