WASHINGTON, CMC – The United States has welcomed the decision by Kenya to lead a multinational force into Haiti as escalating violence between armed gangs and police in the French-speaking CARICOM country is feeling a humanitarian crisis.
State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller said Monday that he does not believe that the abduction of an American nurse and her child from a Christian education ministry in Haiti last Thursday is connected to the department’s issuance of a Level 4 Travel Advisory that same day telling Americans to leave for the Caribbean nation soon as possible.
Following an international appeal for help to crisis-torn Haiti, Kenya s Foreign Minister Alfred Mutua said in a statement Saturday that his country was ready to participate in a multinational force to curb the escalating violence in the Caribbean country.
