Valley News - Town Meeting: Enfield group looks to end town manager position

Town Meeting: Enfield group looks to end town manager position Modified: 3/4/2021 9:48:37 PM ENFIELD A group of residents is advocating for Enfield to do away with its town manager system of government in favor of one that reserves more responsibilities for elected officials. A petitioned warrant article on next week’s Town Meeting ballot asks voters to abolish the town manager position implemented 25 years ago. Members of the Selectboard, however, want to keep the current system. Supporters of the article say the town manager’s job which by law has hiring and firing power, can pay the town’s bills and set salaries is too expensive and accountable to too few.

Enfield budget increase is up 6% Modified: 2/21/2021 8:53:13 PM ENFIELD Voters in Enfield will decide a contested race for Selectboard during Australian balloting voting next month. Selectboard Chairwoman Kate Stewart is running for another three-year term against Sam Eaton, who currently serves as vice chairman of the town’s Budget Committee. Stewart, who previously served on the Mascoma Valley Regional School Board, said in an email that she views town government as an opportunity to leverage Enfield’s natural resources, history and volunteers to move the community forward. The town “does our best work when we stick together,” Stewart said, adding that she hopes to continue fostering those sentiments.
