Glenn Youngkin emerged as the Virginia GOP’s nominee for governor on Monday after a relatively drama-free day of vote counting that saw the 54-year-old former CEO of the Carlyle Group maintain a comfortable lead through successive rounds of vote counting in the ranked-choice contest. “I am prepared to lead, excited to serve and profoundly humbled by the trust the people have placed in me,” Youngkin wrote in a tweet. “Virginians have made it clear that they are ready for a political outsider with proven business experience to bring real change in Richmond.”
Republican candidates for governor of Virginia, 2021’s marquee race, indulged concerns from the party's base concerns about election integrity and campaigned on the issue.

FALLS CHURCH, Va. (AP) A Republican who narrowly lost the nomination for attorney general at a party convention in Virginia is requesting a recount.
Hard-right candidate Chuck Smith lost to Del. Jason Miyares by a 52-48 margin after ballots of more than 30,000 delegates were counted Sunday.
The contest was closer than expected, and involved multiple rounds of voting under a ranked-choice voting system implemented by party officials.
In a statement Monday, Smith said he requested the recount after reports that, in the final round of balloting, ballots from him were added to Miyares stack and vice versa. Smith’s campaign provided no further details about what allegedly occurred.

RICHMOND, Va. - Glenn Youngkin has won the 2021 GOP nomination to be Virginia s next governor.
The race featured six other candidates. The next closest candidate in votes, Pete Snyder, conceded conceded on Monday night. It s a different kind of campaign - a different kind of playbook than Republicans have been running, Youngkin told News 3 on Tuesday. I m an outsider. I ve never done this before.
While certainly would have preferred a W, I send my heartfelt congratulations to @glennyoungkin on a tremendous race + deserved win.  He + the ticket have my 100% support. Grateful to @Bursonsnyder + entire team. Love you all + our big family that is the VA GOP. #openourschools Pete Snyder (@petesnyder) May 11, 2021
