North American prices for polyethylene, PVC and solid polystyrene have continued to rise in 2021, with each material showing increases since April 1.

Regional PE prices surged an average of 9 cents per pound since April 1. Supplies of the material remain tight as producers look to recover from outages caused by Winter Storm Uri in February.
PE prices now are up a total of 28 cents so far in 2021 and are up 48 cents since January 2020. PE makers are seeking increases of 5-6 cents per pound for May.

MIDLAND, Mich. Dow Inc. has roared into 2021 with strong first-quarter financial results.
The materials giant posted sales of almost $11.9 billion for the quarter, up almost 22 percent vs. the same quarter in 2020. The firm also posted a profit of just over $1 billion for the quarter, almost four times higher than its profit in the year-ago quarter. The global COVID-19 pandemic began affecting financial results of many public firms in March 2020. We remained agile in an extremely dynamic business environment, CEO and Chairman Jim Fitterling said on an April 22 conference call. He added that all of Dow s production units that were affected by Winter Storm Uri, which hit Texas in February, are back online. Dow s production of polyethylene, ethylene and related materials was affected by the storm.
Chemical industry executive Jim Fitterling will become a member of 3M’s board this month.
American industrial and consumer products manufacturer 3M announced Tuesday that Dow Chemical Chief Executive Officer and Chairman Jim Fitterling will join its board of directors on February 5.
Fitterling has served Dow for over three decades. He became the company’s CEO in 2018 and its chairman in April 2020. Prior to occupying the material science firm’s top roles, he was president and chief operating officer of Dow and chief operating officer of DowDuPont’s Materials Science division.
