A fund created by the Blair County commissioners to aid with the removal of blighted properties will receive more money as of July 1, according to action taken by the county board on Thursday.
The commissioners doubled a fee collected by the Blair County Recorder of Deeds on all mortgages and deeds recorded in the county office. The present fee is $7.50, but as of July 1, it will be $15 per document.
That increase means the charge on filing a deed transfer or mortgage will go from $79.25 to $86.75.
Revenue from the fee increase will be earmarked for the “County of Blair Demolition Fund,” which was initiated in 2019 to address blight in area communities.

HOLLIDAYSBURG Blair County expects to exhaust its COVID-19 Hospitality Industry Recovery Grant Program allocation in the first round of funding.
The Altoona Blair County Development Corp., which is administering the county’s CHIRP, identified 60 eligible entities that submitted applications for a share of the county’s $1.38 million allocation before deadline.
ABCD indicated that if applications fell short of exhausting the county’s allocation, then additional applications would be accepted.
“It appears that all funds will be used,” commissioners Chairman Bruce Erb said Tuesday.
It’s also expected, Erb said, that ABCD will work through April on grant agreements that the applicants will sign before checks are distributed before the end of April.
