BILLERICA An effort to overturn the fall Town Meeting vote to approve a $20 million project to renovate Billerica’s town center moved one step forward last week after a campaign to put the issue on a direct townwide ballot appeared to gather more than enough signatures.
AFTER GOV. Maura Healey’s state of emergency on the migrant crisis in the commonwealth, followed by the news that UMass Lowell’s Inn & Conference Center was being considered as a housing site for those families, Lowell’s business and political leadership issued a series of statements on the crisis.
Town Meeting members will decide on 28 articles on the fall Town Meeting warrant at Billerica’s Town Hall Oct. 3, three of which concern funding for two major projects the town is seeking to take up.
The Billerica Select Board voted 3-2 Monday to reallocate $3.1 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds to the proposed town center renovation project to take advantage of lower interest rates from a state loan for a different project.
BILLERICA The Select Board voted 4-1 Monday evening to allow a “pro-life” flag to fly at the Billerica Public Library for two weeks in October while also taking steps towards adopting a policy that would limit which flags could fly on town flag poles.
