the constitution including incitement. i thought we made a compelling case on the floor of the united states senate and i believe ultimately majority of the united states senate agreed and concurred in our conclusion. unfortunately, only switch republican senators were willing to choose country over party and follow their conscience and vote to convict the president so as you stated, he was able to avid accountability. the committee is considering based on the statements i heard from vice chair cheney and thompson potential criminal referrals particularly as it relates to perhaps the obstruction statute impeding an official proceeding that would be the electoral college certification. i m not going to get in front of the committee. that will involve a number of complex legal questions that the committee is going to have to answer but i trust chairman thompson and his judgment and his ability to get to the bottom of the facts tomerican people and make the necessary decisions

the core objective of the committee is to get to the facts and circumstances that we can prove. now, i think hard of what you just read. why would all these people text the president of the united states and say you have to stop these people? there s some connection between those individuals doing the texts and who they re doing it to. our committee needs to figure out in our investigation what those connections are. the only way we can prove and get to those connections is have the people who are communicating with that to come before the committee. you mean they weren t texting you to call it off? no, sir. were they texting you, miss cheney to call it off? they did not. seemed to just go to mr. meadows and the president. i yield back.

applies equally to them. it is our duty here to make sure that happens. so for the sake of our democracy, i urge my colleagues to support the rule, the underlying resolution, and i yield back. thank you. mr. neguse? sorry, my apologies, mr. chairman. i would echo the sentiments of my colleagues on my side of the aisle. i think they said it well. i express my gratitude to vice chair cheney and chairman tho thompson for their collective leadership. this has clearly been a contentious process and one that required poise, decisiveness and above all else a commitment to getting to the truth about what happened on january 6th and exposing those facts to the american public.

since january. democrats have controlled the house and senate since january. why has it taken this long to start getting to the bottom of what happened on 1-6? it is a good question. i think it is important to note the history of the committee s work. initially, we passed. we worked with republicans here in the house to pass a january 6th commission that would have been 9/11 style commission, democrat and republican appointees, but mitch mcconnell asked his senate caucus to do him a personal favor and to vote against the measure. so then we had to come back and we had to pass this just where legislators would serve on the body. so that took a little time and so i m comfortable going to my constituents and telling them it took a little bit of time because we wanted to get it right because we wanted to make this above politics because we wanted to make this not just bipartisan but nonpartisan. those conversations take a little time. i will tell you vice chair

i want to say thank you to both of you. you have done a tremendous job. the way you worked with each other in ensuring the committee s business is achieved is something for everyone in our country to follow and to emulate. with that, i yield back. thank you. i want to make a couple of minutes of closing remarks for the record. i think it s notable that as of the start of the meeting, that there has been zero mentions on fox news of their host texts to mark meadows. the texts that miss cheney read last night of the select committee s meeting, not one. that s despite the fact that one of the hosts that texted him was live on the air all morning. i can t account for what was said while we were in this hearing. i m glad these hosts privately pushed to stop the violence on that awful day, but what i m
