SPRINGFIELD Coronavirus restrictions meant a much smaller gathering than usual for this year’s menorah lighting ceremony at Court Square, but participants spoke of brighter days ahead.
Approximately 25 people gathered for the outdoor ceremony Thursday to celebrate the beginning of Hanukkah. The event was by invitation to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and omitted the traditional participation of students from Lubavicher Yeshiva Academy in Longmeadow.
Rabbi Noach Kosofsky, director of the academy, said one candle is lit each night of Hanukkah for eight nights to create a “beautiful bright menorah.”
