Boogie Down at Providence Rink Roller Disco Thursdays and Fridays

Beginning on Thursday, June 3, the Providence Rink will transform its outdoor skating rink into a Roller Disco. Following the Thursday kickoff event, Disco Thursdays and Fridays will continue every Thursday and Friday from 5-10 p.m. The BankNewport City Center is collaborating with the Conscious Club to provide groovy songs from hit deejays and live acts.

FirstWorks announced today a free summer concert series in the outdoor setting of the park, in partnership with Roger Williams Park Conservancy and the Providence Parks Department. The FirstWorks Live-Music at Roger Williams Park series features six free Sunday afternoon performances, kicking off on June 27, 2021, and running through September 19, 2021. The series offers a global journey from Polynesian dance and drums to Andean folk music, international hip-hop to Caribbean Carnival, red-hot Latin jazz to red roots Americana. “The Creative Capital:” Voices from the Providence Music Scene

Providence, RI, capital of the tiniest state in the U.S., makes up for its small size with an overflowing personality and a fertile arts community. Many of its residents are quick to remind you that this city is the self-proclaimed “Creative Capital” of the country, and the nickname is hard to deny. Artists of all kinds, and especially talented BIPOC (Black, indigenous, and people of color) musicians, have long made Providence a city to know.
In the mid-twentieth century, Providence boasted New England’s first ever interracial jazz club, the Celebrity Club. Musical legends such as Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, and Billie Holiday stopped in Rhode Island to perform for audiences of all races at the Club on Randall Street in Randall Square, a historically vibrant Black neighborhood. The first hour has Los Angeles-based tap-dance phenoms Syncopated Ladies, Indian tabla sensation Nitin Mitta and sitarist Srinivas Reddy, Pawtucket hip-hop artist Chachi Carvalho, Providence folk-soul troubadour Natále and fellow Providence dream pop act Nova One, led by Roz Raskin.
