Chennai, May 3 : The Congress party retained the Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha seat in the bypoll with its candidate V. Vijayakumar trouncing former Union Minister and BJP s Pon Radhakrishnan.
Vijayakumar polled about 5.76 lakh votes as against Radhakrishnan who got about 4.38 lakh votes.
The bypoll was necessitated owing to the death of H. Vasanth Kumar due to Covid-19 last August and the election was held on April 6.
The third spot was garnered by movie director Seeman floated Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) candidate R. Anetter Allwyn who had polled 58,593 votes or about five per cent of the votes cast.

The electoral fate of 3,998 candidates who fought in the April 6 Tamil Nadu assembly polls will be known on Sunday, May 2. While it will be a celebration day for the 234-successful candidates and also for the winning political party/combination, one can also hear Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! cries from some others.
As per the Election Commission of India, 72.81 percent of the 6.29 crore voters have cast their votes in the poll. Apart from the Assembly election results, the bypoll results for the Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha constituency will also be known on Sunday.

Chennai, May 2 : Counting of votes polled in the April 6 Tamil Nadu assembly election will begin at 8 a.m on Sunday.
A total of 3,998 candidates are fighting it out to enter the 234-member Tamil Nadu assembly.
As per the Election Commission of India, 72.81 per cent of the 6.29 crore voters have cast their votes in the poll.
Apart from the Assembly election results, the bypoll results for the Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha constituency will also be known on Sunday.
