But if you think Chiques only means gangs, chances are, you re not from Oxnard. To some residents, Chiques means resilience. It means growing up with farmworker roots. It means playing soccer on Sundays. It means Oxnard. Many Oxnard residents like Hernandez are reclaiming the word. They are taking to social media to show off their Chiques pride. They are Chiques, born and raised.  Hernandez, 22, started his own clothing company last year called De Un Campo A Otro, or From One Field to Another. The shirts and hat designs, which marry the farmworker and soccer experience, are showcased on his Instagram account Chiques FC, a nod to the fútbol club and his favorite sport.
