Parent company Centrica said that a majority of British Gas engineers have now accepted revised contracts with up to 400 staff expected to end their employment today by rejecting the new terms after months of strikes
An estimated 300 to 400 British Gas engineers are expected to lose their jobs with the company after refusing to agree to revised employment contracts. This follows months of industrial action and service disruptions over plans to introduce new contracts.
British Gas owner Centrica said that around 500 engineers were yet to sign the new contract terms, which it argues are vital to restructure the business amidst significant changes expected within the market for gas heat and hot water services. However, some trade union members are highly critical of the proposed changes that they argue will economically disadvantage engineers at a time where Centrica is profiting from British Gas.
Chief financial officer Johnathan Ford, who had joined Centrica in June, will leave the company at the end of the month and will be replaced by Kate Ringrose, the group s financial controller.
