According to India's estimates of TB cases attributable to selected comorbidities in 2021 as per the WHO's Global TB Report 2022 include malnourishment (7.38 lakh), harmful level of alcohol consumption (2.58 lakh), smoking (1.10 lakh), diabetes (1.05 lakh), and HIV (93,000). Alcohol use disorder is an important risk factor for TB.

Indian consumer confidence, as tracked by the Reserve Bank of India, has been abysmal ever since covid broke out. Now the latest findings of the YouGov-Mint-CPR Millennial Survey, conducted by the global pollster in alliance with this newspaper and the Centre for Policy Research, has revealed worrisome self-reported details of what the crisis did to household finances. The demise of Diego Maradona last month incidentally brought to the fore the topic of monetary policy in Argentina. The governor of Bank of England in 2005, Mervyn King, in a lecture staunchly supporting inflation targeting, had used Maradona’s (invisible) ‘Hand of God’ goal, and his unexpected tactics in his second goal in Argentina’s spectacular 1986 win against England, to elucidate concepts related to inflation expectations. Lord Mervyn King’s comments were alluded to in newspaper editorials, and in Mint too, last month.
