Holding Marriage Hostage: Male Guardianship in Muslim Women’s Application for Marriage in Contemporary Malaysia Posted on Under Malaysia’s Islamic Family Law, Muslim women may only marry with the signed authorization of a male guardian ( wali), usually their biological father.
