The International Press Centre’s (IPC) Centre for Safety and Protection of Journalists, has condemned in strongest terms, the alleged gruesome killing of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) reporter, Hamisu Danjibga, in Zamfara State. SaharaReporters earlier reported that Danjibga who went missing in Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria was found dead in a soakaway pit behind his house on Wednesday.
The International Press Centre’s (IPC) Centre for Safety and Protection of Journalists (I-CSPJ) has frowned at the attack launched against journalists and pressmen covering the Kano State Governorship Election by the operatives of the Nigeria Police Force. In a press statement released by Melody Akinjiyan, Press Freedom Officer, I-CSPJ, the centre said Salim Umar Ibrahim of Daily Trust and BBC Hausa Reporter, Zahraddeen Lawal were among the journalists who were attacked by the police on Wednesday morning.
We urge the men of the Nigerian Police Force to be mindful of actions they take against journalists and not continually create an environment where journalists would be afraid to work and discharge their duties effectively and efficiently.
