Centralia Police received several calls of a shooting at Laura Leake Park Monday Evening. At 6:09pm the department received several calls of a shooting at Laura Leake Park with a victim on scene. Officers with Centralia Police, Centralia Fire and Lifestar ambulance were dispatched. Centralia Police were the first to arrive on scene and began giving immediate first aid to one victim. Officers determined there was a second victim that was transferred by private vehicle to St Mary's Hospital. A third victim was identified but refused medical treatment. The Centralia Police Department contact the Illinois State Police Zone 8 Investigations and they are currently in charge of the investigation. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory from noon today until 11 p.m. Wednesday for portions of south-central, southwest, and west-central Illinois. The jet stream is going to be pushing into the upper Midwest which will keep storms and cooler temperatures to our north. This will allow dangerous heat to build into our region. Heat indices could reach between 100 and 105 today, with index values possibly reaching around 110 on Tuesday and Wednesday. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
