The county is applying for a $60 million federal grant and committing to provide the same amount locally through county debt financing for projects including a new Gayton Road interchange.
The 43-mile paved trail with amenities will stretch from Ashland to Petersburg, connecting cyclists and walkers from seven localities in Central Virginia to exercise, nature, and much more.
The Hanover groundbreaking followed a similar event late last year to kick off construction of the Henrico County portion of the trail, which will run 43 miles from Ashland to Petersburg.
Four of the five projects will impact Henrico s Fairfield District. One of those projects is designed as a bridge over I-95 for walking and biking only.
