Latino Community Association receives $12,000 from Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation
Latino Community Association
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) The Latino Community Association has received a $12,000 boost in June from the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation of Roseburg to support its efforts to equip Central Oregon Latinos with job skills and help finding employment.
LCA’s workforce education program teaches English and computer skills (currently online) and offers one-on-one support to navigate job applicants through setting goals, refining their resumes, applying for jobs or applying for a business license. With this help, workers can gain higher-paying jobs to build wealth and provide better housing, food, and health care for their families.
Grant to boost workforce training for laid-off Latino workers
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) A $10,000 grant will help Central Oregon Latinos who lost work during the pandemic shutdown find new jobs or improve their English and train for another field.
The Latino Community Association will use the funds from the Barbara Emily Knudson Charitable Foundation to bolster its workforce education program.
LCA is seeing a surge of interest in its now-virtual English classes and tutoring and a new computer training class.
“We have seen folks in dire straits based on employment and we want to continue our efforts to help elevate them during this time,” LCA wrote to the foundation.
