SAN ANSELMO, CA San Anselmo residents were breathing a little easier Thursday night after a young bear that descended on the town attracting multiple law enforcement agencies and television camera vans scampered off into the woods on without incident after a brief standoff.
Central Marin Police late in the afternoon responded to a report that the bear was spotted in a tree near downtown in the 100 block of Tamalpais Avenue, police said.

A lost black bear was spotted 40 feet up a tree in the backyard of a home in Marin County, California, on Thursday.
Police arrived at the house in the town of San Anselmo at around 4:45 p.m. after residents reported seeing the 200-pound animal in the yard, ABC 7 reported.
As word of the bear sighting spread around the neighborhood, which is just a few blocks from downtown, locals began to gather hoping to catch a glimpse of the animal.

MARIN COUNTY, CA A Marin County domestic violence suspect is accused of leading authorities on a frantic foot chase on a major freeway and assaulting arriving officers according to Central Marin Police.
Officers on Monday shortly after 4 p.m. responded to a report of man assaulting a woman at the southbound Highway 101 bus pad under the Tamalpais Drive overpass, police said.
The man was seen dragging the woman by her hair as she screamed for help according to police.
