Mr Parnel Campbell, QC affectionately called ‘PR’ was a long-standing senior member of the legal profession in St Vincent and the Grenadines and the OECS. He was well-known as a lawyer and politician throughout the Caribbean.
PR Campbell was a true nation builder. He contributed to national development in many ways and will be remembered as a man whose life exemplified a commitment to public service. He did so as a politician, as a political commentator and as a vocal champion of the rule law and of public order.

Parnel R Campbell, who died on April 19, 2021, a few months shy of his 76th birthday, was my friend, my colleague and competitor in politics, a brother in the law, and a sage adviser. Our relationship spanned over 62 years. I first met Parnel when I entered the St Vincent Grammar School in January 1959; he had enrolled at our premier boys’ school a year or two earlier. Legal luminary and elder statesman Parnel Randolph Campbell QC, will be accorded an official funeral, a status befitting someone who has served the nation well.
Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, in a tribute broadcast on NBC Radio said Campbell, who died at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital on Monday, April 19, was among the best of our nation and once his family gives permission, he will be given an official funeral by “a grateful nation”.
News of the former politician’s death, which spread quickly on social media late Monday night, took many by shock, coming as it did just hours after a repeat broadcast of his show ‘The Law and You’ had aired on SVG TV. That weekly television programme, which had its debut in April 1997, was broadcast for half an hour every Monday night, except on public holidays, for the last 24 years.

Parliamentary representative for Central Kingstown Major St Clair Leacock is resting comfortably at home after a fall in his constituency on Sunday.
‘Major’ St Clair Leacock, Vice-president of the opposition New Democratic Party and parliamentary representative for Central Kingstown.
“It’s not a bi-election as yet. Don’t call a bi-election,” Leacock joked to SEARCHLIGHT via telephone on Monday, one day after he was knocked down a flight of steps outside the Phillips’s residence in Hollywood, Redemption Sharpes.
