A driver who tried to elude Rochelle Park police by wading through a frigid brook after crashing a vehicle ended up hospitalized and in custody instead, authorities said.
Thomas Overton, 18, of the Bronx nearly struck the owner whose car he’d just hit at the intersection of Berdan Street and South Drive as he fled the scene shortly after 5:30 p.m. Monday, Lt. James M. DePreta said.
Responding police found his abandoned Nissan Rogue – with no license plates at the end of dead-ended Chestnut Street soon after, DePreta said.
Witnesses who provided cellphone and home surveillance video told officers that Overton had headed on foot toward Sprout Brook, he said.

From a small Paterson apartment up the street from a grammar school, an area supplier provided street-level drug dealers with heroin, cocaine and crack, authorities said following a raid.
Led by detectives from their Narcotics Division, city police seized more than two pounds of crack and powdered cocaine combined, along with 1,560 heroin folds and more than $5,900 in proceeds, they said.
They arrested five people, they said, including a woman who lives in the Main Street apartment with three of her children.
Also collected were various materials used to package the drugs for sale.
Detectives watched as Maisonet Cruz, 48, emerged from the residence off Route 80, gave a bag of drugs to Juan Rodriguez, 32, of Montville, PA and then went back inside early Tuesday afternoon, city Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale said
An automotive tech from Franklin Lakes was charged with raping a minor.
Allen Perez, 27, “transported a child under the age of thirteen across state lines and engaged in sexual intercourse with the child,” Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said Thursday.
Franklin Lakes police notified members of Musella’s Special Victims Unit, who arrested Perez on charges of sexually assaulting and endangering a minor following an investigation.
A Central Judicial Processing judge in Hackensack ordered that Perez remain held in the Bergen County Jail pending further court action.

A Bogota man who got into a fight with a neighbor after nearly hitting him with a motorized scooter pulled two knives on him, borough police said.
Responding to a call of a fight on Central Avenue, Officers George Hondros and Matthew Luciano found Ryan Jimenez, 28, holding two paring knives that he used to threaten to kill the neighbor, Sgt. Geoffrey Cole said.
Jimenez was charged with weapons possession and making terroristic threats and sent to the Bergen County Jail to await a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court.
