Governor dunmore . Joseph he was the last royal governor of virginia who came to the United States in 1771 when things were in a state of turmoil. He stayed through the very earliest parts of the rising conflict as the revolution started, but left williamsburg in 1775 and left virginia in 1776. Greta why . Joseph things really heated up. What we just saw with the dissolving of the house in some ways really kind of marked a point of no return for any hopes of peaceful reconciliation with the royal government.
