Crews hit gas line while working on Old Springville Road in Clay

From The Tribune staff reports CLAY – Crews working to widen Old Springville Road in Clay hit a gas line on Thursday, April 29, 2021, leaving both directions of the roadway closed while multiple crews responded. The incident happened around 2 p.m. near the intersection of Civitan Road, where Bryant Park Elementary School is located, according to Jefferson County Commissioner Joe Knight. The location was in the city limits of Clay. Center Point Fire & Rescue, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Trussville Gas and Water responded. The fire department stayed on the scene for roughly two hours while the gas company worked to stop the leak and repair the line.

Facebook Share Authorities are on the scene of a drive-by shooting that left a juvenile injured in the Center Point area. The shooting happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. in the 500 block of 18th Avenue N.W. in the Bridlewood community. A male – believed to be 13-years-old – was wounded and transported by Center Point Fire to Children’s of Alabama. Jefferson County sheriff’s Deputy Chief David Agee said the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The teen victim was taken by Center Point Fire to Children’s of Alabama. He underwent surgery Monday and is listed in stable condition. He is expected to be OK. A shooting happened March 15, 2021 in the 500 block of 18th Avenue N.W. in the Bridlewood community. Deputy Chief David Agee on Tuesday announced charges against a 14-year-old and two 17-year-olds. The 14-year-old is being held in Jefferson County Family Court. The two older teens are being held in the Jefferson County Jail.

City of Clay to host annual Alabama pickleball tournament

By Crystal McGough CLAY Big news for the city of Clay was announced at the city council meeting held on Dec. 22, 2020. City Manager Ronnie Dixon informed the council that the city of Clay was chosen to host Alabama’s first pickleball tournament, which will be held the week of Spring Break, March 25-28, 2021. The city opened its four pickleball courts, as well as four new tennis courts, in August 2019. Photo credit: City of Clay Facebook page “I have an exciting announcement,” Dixon said. “The city of Clay has been chosen to host the first annual Alabama open in pickleball. I think it’s our first real opportunity to have something that we can create that will be on par with the Butterbean Festival as we grow into it. I don’t know yet how many participants there will be. Of course, with it being an open tournament, anyone can sign up for the age groups.”
