Ossipee FD tackles chimney fire
January 28, 2021OSSIPEE On Sunday, Jan. 24 at 3:53 p.m., Center Ossipee Fire was dispatched to 75 Broad Bay Rd. for a reported building fire.
Engine 3 was the first to arrive in seven minutes, simultaneously with Deputy Chief Nate Williams. Engine 3 Firefighter Carter Clay ordered a second alarm immediately. Crews found heavy fire conditions in the basement, first floor and second floor walls of a two and a half story lakefront home, the home was approximately 40 x 60. Deputy Williams directed two hoselines be stretched to begin extinguishment. At 4:03 p.m., C1 arrived and established command. The fire was contained in two hours and overhaul completed. Wind from the lake hampered interior operations as well as low temperatures. Engine 2, Tanker 5, Rescue 1, Car 1, 2 and Utility 1 assisted crews on scene. And that notion of working together for a common cause of aid extends to any animals that need it as well, as was the case Saturday when a horse found itself stuck in the mud.
According to Wakefield Fire/Rescue s Facebook post on Sunday, the team got a call in the afternoon about a horse a half mile into the woods in Brookfield, unable to move because it was stuck.
Turns out, the trek was more than half a mile, and with darkness creeping in, the rescue was not going to be an easy one.
