MANILA - The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) brings together romance and love for sports in a special love month webisode of Rise Up, Shape Up this Saturday. The special episode will feature the love story of former volleyball stars Arlene Apostol and Antonio Ladimo on how the sport became a cupid matchmaker in their 20-year relationship. Apostol and Ladimo both played in the UAAP Volleyball and were part of the men's and women's volleyball teams who played in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in the 1980s and 1990s. Both had stellar performances in the international games with Arlene being part of the national volleybelles which bagged three gold medals for the country in 1985, 1987, and 1993 SEA Games. Her winning record also included silver and bronze medal wins during the 1983 and 1991 biennial meet, respectively. This weekly web series will feature Jonathan Arias on February 19, and his sports program called, "Teach Me Wrestling" which won the "Proyektong Isport Pangkababaihan" award at the 2021 PSC Gintong Gawad. Arias founded the program to challenge the status quo in a rural conservative community in Tabaco City, where wrestling is often perceived as a male sport. It encourages schoolgirls to learn the sport, build physical and mental strength, and allow them to break the mold in sports development. PSC Commissioner Celia H. MANILA - The Philippine Sports Commission's (PSC) Rise Up Shape Up will have Gintong Gawad 2021 awardee Dr. Drolly Claravall in the latest webisode on Saturday. Claravall is the recipient of PSC's Gintong Gawad award, "Makabago at Natatanging Produktong Pang-Isport" for her invention of an ergonomically designed handheld massage tool which is designed to mimic the hands and fingers of a massage therapist when doing a massage technique. The idea came when Claravall attended a seminar on blading and taping sports injuries at the University of the Philippines in July 2017. The blading technique uses a handheld massage tool instead of human hands and fingers in treating muscle and body pains. However, Claravall had concerns with the bruising and pains experienced by clients after the therapy using the blading technique.
