We are now well under way in 2021, but it s never to late to make a new year s resolution, as proven by Gwyneth Paltrow who has made a few new beauty vows for the year ahead. On her lifestyle brand Goop’s Instagram account last week, it was declared that ‘GP’ (as she’s referred to by her team) only wants to focus on the products that deliver “serious results”. So what does this entail, exactly? Well, you won t be surprised to hear that they include five products by Goop’s own skincare range, including a vitamin C serum and face cream. But what are the other things that keep her looking so youthful at 48?

Just over a year ago the Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson announced to her then eight million followers on Instagram that 2020 was to be her ‘Year of Health’. It may have been because 2020 was the year she turned 40, or because she wanted to challenge the roles she was always cast for in Hollywood films; whatever the reason, we all watched her journey through Instagram and millions cheered her along in her progress. As well as ending the year with 1.5 million more followers, Wilson also cut a slim figure having neared her target weight of 75 kilos.

Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo, £18, Living Proof: I love this brand – its Restore Shampoo and Conditioner are wonderful, and the haircare product that always travels with me is this dry shampoo
Face Mist Illuminating Bronzing Mist, £28, Amanda Harrington: Amanda’s products give the most even golden tan. None of that fake-tan smell, and they are full of hydrating ingredients.
EGF Serum, £130, Bioeffect: An age-defying serum that absorbs beautifully into the skin and helps to increase collagen and elastin production, as well as softening lines. It gives my skin a gorgeous glow
Moon Mist Aura Spray, £30, Paolo Lai: I adore this aura-cleansing pick-me-up spray by my friend Paolo. Everyone who smells it instantly falls in love. I find it uplifting and energising.
Although there was no live studio audience for Sunday night’s show, O’Neill tells me they created their own energy backstage. “We played the Lovers Rock soundtrack by Steve McQueen, which is great and so chilled. I also rub invigorating essential oils onto my wrists before I do the make-up, so Holly gets whiffs of the scent while I’m doing her make-up.” O’Neill favours oils by Neal’s Yard Remedies and Aromatherapy Associates.
For the make-up, O’Neill used a Inika Radiant Glow Primer, £38, to begin with, crediting a primer as a ‘must’ for any woman over 30 to even out the complexion (even if just with a concealer). On Holly she used a £48 foundation by the Japanese beauty brand Suqqu, known best for its skin-like, refined bases. She used the Nude Wear Foundation buffed in with a foundation brush to blend seamlessly.

Stacey Dooley is no stranger to the assumption that women can’t be interested in politics and beauty, simultaneously. ‘It is hideously outdated and it’s really boring when people say, “Are you a serious female interested in activism or do you care about hair?”’ she says. ‘Why can’t I care about both?’
