Capitol Hill, Monrovia – The House of Representatives has passed a bill seeking to create a special education scheme to support deserving students attending public tertiary institutions across Liberia.
The House took the decision on Thursday following recommendations from its joint Committee on Education, Public Administration, and Ways Means and Finance and Development Planning contained in its report read in plenary.
The decision to accept all of the committee’s recommendations to pass the bill was prompted by a motion filed by Rep. Mathew Zarzar (District #3, Sinoe County) who moved that the second reading of the report should constitutes its third and final reading and that the recommendations should be endorsed in its entirety, and the bill should
In adherence to Rule 54 of the House’s Rules and Procedures, Speaker Bhofal Chambers has named the mid-term heads and members of the House of Representatives’ statutory and standing committees of various sectors in the country.
House’s Rule 54.1 says: All committee chairpersons and members shall serve for (3) three years, but only the chairperson and co-chairperson are subject to removal by 2/3 majority vote of the Members of the House for a cause.”
The appointment power of the Speaker is in accordance with Rule 7, which says the Speaker shall “Appoint the Chairpersons and Co-chairpersons of Statutory Committees; appoint members of Statutory Committees in consultation with the House’s Leadership.”
