NJ Transit wants to deploy electric buses using two charging-equipped bus garages and redesigned routes. But some are worried that the EV range won’t be sufficient for some of the longer routes.
Essential workers still the backbone of NJ Transit’s COVID ridership, survey says

When are commuters expecting to head back to the office?
NJ Transit’s December rider survey said a slim majority of those surveyed are ready to return to the workplace. Commuters also applauded most of their fellow riders for wearing masks and gave the agency decent marks for keeping equipment and facilities sanitized.
Almost 54,000 people took the agency’s third coronavirus survey and the results were revealed Wednesday.
Essential workers riding local buses continue to be the backbone of NJ Transit’s to-and-from work ridership during the pandemic.

After push from environmentalists, NJ Transit’s new group is focused on sustainability

Five months ago, environmentalists battered NJ Transit officials about having renewable energy options considered for a $577 million TransitGrid back-up power plant, reminding officials of plans by their boss Gov. Phil Murphy to eliminate air pollution by 2050.
During its first meeting on Wednesday, some of those opponents praised NJ Transit for forming an Energy and Sustainability Policy Committee. The committee was formed by Diane Guttierez-Scaccetti, transportation commissioner and NJ Transit board president, late last year.
“Thank you for establishing this committee, said activist Elizabeth Ndoye of Hoboken. “I’d ask you continue to lead the way and protect the health and well-being of customers and neighbors. Let’s not equivocate on this.”
