Last night republican dan bishop narrowly defeated democrat dan mccreedy in a special election in North Carolinas ninth congressional district. The house race was seen as a referendum on President Trump who easily won the district in 2016. Laura podesta is here in new york. Why was this so important for republicans . Reporter annemarie, dan bishops victory is a bright spot for a Republican House delegation that lost 40 seats in the 2018 midterm elections. The North Carolina state senator will keep red a seat republicans have held since 1963. Still, the fact that the race was competitive may be troubling for the gop.
