MUSKEGON, MI – Nine months into the COVID-19 pandemic, a local seamstress and a concerted community effort are ensuring Muskegon County residents are equipped to stay safe.
Mask Up Muskegon has distributed nearly 4,000 masks within the community nearly a third of which were sewn by one woman.
“About six, seven hours, just from cutting, pinning, sewing and washing,” said Liz Trzaska, the seamstress behind more than 1,300 masks.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March, Trzaska has sat down at her sewing machine in her North Muskegon home and created dozens of masks a week. At first, she started making them for friends and family but increased her efforts as the need continued.
