Residents along Northwest Highway in Dallas, Texas, are pleading with the city and the Texas Department of Transportation to do more to slow drivers outside of.
Interstate 345 is a critical 1.4-mile stretch that connects Interstate 75 from the north to Interstate 45 to the south. It sits between Downtown Dallas and Deep Ellum, but its lifespan is running out.
The City Council will vote on whether to support a plan to trench the presently elevated highway by the end of this month. The proceedings begin on Monday with a public panel.
The state’s “preferred alternative” for the highway between downtown and Deep Ellum is to bury it below-grade, reconnecting the street grid by way of the existing streets. Outright removal appears doomed.
