Just a minute ago we saw lifeguards and fire trucks go zipping down the highway here at ocean beach. It was about 1 13 this afternoon when this past incident happened. It was the call of a swimmer in distress. The lifeguard went in for a rescue. He was on a surfboard and got caught up in a current. He had to paddle out about a quarter of a mile, bail off to the beach to get out of the rip current. Heres the what battalion chief has to say. Dont get the water. Its extremely aggressive. At one time this was considered the most dangerous beach in the world. This is not a place to be out here for recreational swimming. Enjoy the beach and sun. Stay out of the water. That swim mer was rescued by surfers out here at ocean beach. The swimmer is fine. The lifeguard also fine but exhausted from trying to fight the rip current trying to get out of the rip current.
